Why does SS1 bitumen emulsion price vary significantly between suppliers with similar specifications?
Price differences often reflect hidden variables: base bitumen quality and grade consistency, emulsifier package cost, water treatment, polymer or stabilizer usage, QA intensity, storage and logistics, and supplier reliability. Two products can meet the same basic spec but differ in stability margin, shelf life, and field performance, which changes total project risk. Local transport costs and seasonality also matter. Some suppliers price aggressively while accepting higher batch variability, while others include stronger QC, technical support, and tighter process control in the price.
