Emulsions are central to sprayed sealing, tack coats, prime coats, surface dressing, slurry seal, microsurfacing, fog seals, and many cold mix patching systems. They are also used in recycling methods such as cold in place recycling and full depth reclamation where emulsions act as rejuvenator and binder without high temperature mixing. Soil stabilization and dust suppression can also use emulsion binders. These techniques are chosen where low energy, fast mobilization, or limited hot mix access is critical. Equipment selection and curing conditions become the main success factors compared to hot mix.
