Low shear positive displacement pumps are preferred to protect droplet structure, especially for polymer modified emulsions. Progressive cavity pumps and rotary lobe pumps are common for bulk transfer because they provide steady flow with limited shear and can handle higher viscosities. Diaphragm pumps work for smaller transfers and unloading. Centrifugal pumps can be used if carefully sized and operated away from cavitation, but high speed and recirculation can destabilize emulsions. Use smooth bore hoses, avoid sharp elbows, control pump speed, and select compatible materials to prevent corrosion and contamination.
