The biggest differences are emulsifier chemistry, pH range, and how the emulsion interacts with aggregates. Cationic emulsions use positively charged emulsifiers and typically operate under acidic conditions using controlled acid dosing. Anionic emulsions use negatively charged emulsifiers and usually operate at higher pH ranges. These choices change breaking behavior, adhesion, and compatibility with mineral surfaces and fillers. Process wise, dosing systems must be designed for the chosen chemistry, including corrosion resistant materials for acidic service, stable water quality, and controlled milling energy to achieve the intended droplet size and stability.
