As a road binder, the emulsion must deliver adhesion, controlled breaking, and durable residue performance. Core characteristics include appropriate binder content for the application, stability in storage and during pumping, compatibility with aggregate chemistry, predictable breaking time under site temperatures and moisture, and residue properties such as penetration, softening point, ductility or elastic recovery if modified. Resistance to stripping and moisture damage is critical for field life. Sprayability or mix workability matters as much as lab numbers. Acceptance should include residue tests plus practical checks like coating quality on aggregate and field break behavior.
