Throughput and quality are driven by the colloid mill power and geometry, stable metering of bitumen and soap solution, temperature control capacity, and pump selection. The machine must maintain consistent shear and residence time to achieve stable droplet size. Quality also depends on the upstream soap preparation system, dosing accuracy for emulsifier and acid, and the downstream storage and agitation design. Filtration and good instrumentation reduce rejects. A high throughput system without stable control can produce large volumes of off spec emulsion quickly, so control and robustness are as important as capacity.
