Slurry performance depends on slow to medium setting behavior that allows mixing and placement without premature breaking. Critical properties include residue content, viscosity that supports coating and workability, compatibility with aggregate gradation and mineral filler, and predictable break and cure under the expected temperature and humidity. Particle charge and emulsifier system affect how the emulsion interacts with fines and filler, which drives mix stability. Too fast a break causes clumping, while too slow a cure delays traffic return. Field trials with the actual aggregate source are often necessary because chemistry varies by quarry.
