Polymer modified emulsions are harder because the binder has higher viscosity and elastic behavior, requiring more energy, tighter temperature control, and careful sequencing to prevent phase separation. Polymer can increase sensitivity to shear, so pumps, mixers, and mill settings must avoid degrading the modification. Storage stability can be more difficult, especially if the polymer network is not fully developed before emulsification. QC must include residue performance tests, elastic recovery indicators, and stability over time, not only basic emulsion parameters like viscosity and pH.
