CSS 1H is used when extended mixing or working time is required, such as slurry seal, certain micro surfacing style systems depending on local specs, cold mix production, and applications where the emulsion must fully coat fines before breaking. Its slow setting behavior allows longer haul, mixing, and placement windows, which reduces the risk of premature break in mixers. Workflow impacts include longer cure time before opening to traffic and greater dependence on weather for water evaporation. Contractors must plan staging so that slow break does not delay subsequent lifts or create tracking.
