Polymer-modified emulsions require higher and more uniform shear energy to disperse the polymer phase effectively. Pre-blending of polymer with bitumen is often done at elevated temperatures (160-180°C), followed by controlled cooling before emulsification. Temperature stability is critical to prevent polymer degradation or phase separation. Colloid mills must be sized for higher torque loads, and process control must prevent thermal shock during emulsification.
