Invert emulsions are preferred when water sensitivity must be minimized, when application conditions limit evaporation, or when substrates are very wet and conventional emulsions struggle to break predictably. They can offer different wetting behavior and improved tolerance to adverse weather in some specialty uses. However they are more complex to formulate, often require different equipment cleaning and safety controls, and may face stricter regulatory scrutiny due to the continuous phase being oil.
