Oxidised bitumen emulsions are typically used in waterproofing and protective coatings where higher softening point and better heat resistance are needed compared to paving grades. Common areas include roof coatings, foundation damp proofing, and industrial protective layers that must resist flow at elevated temperatures. They are less common for road tack or chip seal because oxidised residue can be more brittle, especially at low temperatures, unless modified. Selection is driven by service temperature, film thickness requirements, and compatibility with reinforcing fabrics or mineral fillers.
