Higher viscosity generally increases film build and reduces runoff, but it can cause poor atomization, streaking, and nozzle clogging, especially in cold weather. Lower viscosity sprays easily and distributes uniformly, but it can lead to thin coverage, tracking, or excessive runoff on smooth substrates. Viscosity also affects breaking because droplet mobility and water drainage change, influencing how fast the film sets and how well it wets the surface. In practice, viscosity must match nozzle size, pressure window, bar height, and ambient conditions. That is why field calibration and transverse distribution testing are essential.
