Rubber increases viscosity and introduces dispersion problems that can cause unstable emulsions, plugged mills, or inconsistent residue. Plants often need pre dispersion or pre swelling steps in hot bitumen, higher torque mixing, and controlled temperature to keep rubber workable. Milling must balance enough shear to disperse rubber modified binder but not so much that it overheats or breaks the emulsion. Filtration and robust pumps become more important. Quality control must focus on consistency of rubber content, stability, and performance tests aligned with the intended application.
