Use low shear positive displacement pumps for most emulsions, commonly progressive cavity or lobe pumps, sized for gentle flow and minimal recirculation. Centrifugal pumps can work on some stable grades but increase shear risk, especially at high speed or throttled operation. Materials should resist acidic aqueous phase, typically stainless steel or coated iron with compatible elastomers. Avoid sharp restrictions, cavitation, and high suction lift. Use smooth hoses and large radius bends to reduce local shear and prevent destabilization.
