Curing is mainly water loss plus the breaking and coalescence of asphalt droplets. Higher temperature, lower relative humidity, wind, and an absorbent substrate accelerate cure. Cold, high humidity, shaded surfaces, and damp substrates slow cure and can trap water, leading to tracking, blisters, or wash-off risk. Emulsion chemistry matters: setting rate, emulsifier type, solids content, and polymer modification can shift break timing and film formation. Film thickness is critical: heavy coats skin over, trap moisture, and cure much slower than multiple thin passes.
