Asphalt emulsions have a practical “freshness window” because storage time, temperature swings, and repeated pumping increase separation risk and change breaking behavior. A plant or terminal closer to the jobsite extends reliable delivery radius by reducing transit time, freeze or overheating exposure, and contamination during transfers. Locations also determine how fast inventory turns, which impacts batch age. For contractors, shorter routes usually mean more predictable viscosity, fewer stability issues, and lower freight cost per ton, especially during peak paving seasons.
