Emulsifier chemistry determines droplet charge, wetting, and how quickly the emulsion breaks on contact with aggregate. Faster breaking improves early adhesion and traffic return for spray applications, but it can reduce working time and increase nozzle clog risk. Slower breaking supports mixing and placement operations like slurry or cold mix, but it may be sensitive to humidity and require longer cure. Different emulsifiers also change tolerance to salts, cement or lime contamination, and storage stability. Selecting the wrong breaking behavior often shows up as poor bond, tracking, or inconsistent cure across the jobsite.
