Anionic emulsions are often preferred when the aggregate or substrate chemistry and project method favor anionic charge compatibility. They can perform well with certain alkaline aggregates and in some slurry or soil stabilization contexts depending on local standards and proven performance. Selection is not universal: the choice should be based on coating tests, breaking behavior with the specific aggregate, and the construction method. In environments where cationic grades break too quickly or show poor compatibility, anionic emulsions can provide more workable mixing time and smoother finishes. Field trials remain essential because local water and aggregate chemistry dominate performance.
