Viscosity is typically specified at a reference temperature using a defined test method and it is controlled by binder content, droplet size distribution, emulsifier system, and water chemistry. Production control uses temperature stabilization, accurate ratio control, and consistent milling energy to maintain droplet size. During application, viscosity must stay within a window that sprays uniformly without misting or clogging and still breaks correctly on the substrate. Cold weather raises viscosity and may require grade selection changes or controlled warming. Over shearing can also change viscosity by destabilizing droplets and starting premature breaking.
