Viscosity can be increased by raising binder content, adjusting base binder grade, adding polymer or latex, or introducing rheology modifiers compatible with the emulsion system. Process side, tighter particle size distribution and controlled milling can increase viscosity at the same solids level, while too much shear may destabilize the emulsion. pH and electrolyte adjustments can also change apparent viscosity by affecting droplet interactions. The safe approach is to change one lever at a time and verify storage stability and sprayability because higher viscosity often increases clogging risk and can trigger premature breaking.
