Why do suppliers specify specific gravity values for bitumen emulsions in technical datasheets?

Specific gravity is used for mass to volume conversion in dosing, invoicing, and spray rate control, especially when pumps and meters are volumetric but contracts and mix designs are mass based. It also acts as a quick plausibility check for binder content and water fraction, because deviations can indicate dilution, formulation drift, or trapped air. For plant operations, density trending helps detect off spec batches, separation, and temperature related changes in volumetric throughput. It is not a standalone quality metric, but it is valuable for calibration, logistics, and process monitoring.
