Modern road construction most commonly uses cationic emulsions due to their strong adhesion to aggregates. Rapid setting grades are applied for surface dressing, medium or controlled setting for tack coats, and slow setting for slurry seals and cold mixes. Polymer-modified emulsions are increasingly used where higher traffic loads, improved durability, or moisture resistance are required, especially in maintenance and rehabilitation works.
